Q: What sort of new stuff are you working on? When will you release new 3D content?
A: We're working on some great new stuff for artists and people who enjoy their work! We have a few new scenes in development, with at least one more on the way from Spencer Lindsay (who did the sword). We have an in-house beta saver with (at least) the following new 3D Engine features:
--Support for bump-mapping (with specular) on animated meshes.
--Full support for animated mesh normals (bug fix for real time lighting on animated meshes).
--Multi-sub object 3D Studio MAX Materials are supported.
--Auto-generating Cube Environment maps - parameters taken straight from 3D Studio MAX - render every nth frame or just the first...
--Initial support for GeForce[2&3] features (optional texture compression, auto-generating mip-maps, etc. - much more on the way -)
Many more effects and features are in development - we'll see what we can do! We hope to release some of this new stuff very soon - the more people buy our product, the more time we can spend on new content! If you'd like to help us - some art to contribute or a desire to invest - please get in touch! <TOP>
Q: My firewall seems to prevent me from downloading new AlteredSaver content. Is there any way to download these scenes by myself?
A: Yes. The files are stored on our web server and you may access the folder with a web browser, then click on the scene you want to download. The scene names are pretty obvious - just remove the .tnt.gz file extension!
The scenes are compressed using 'gzip' to reduce download times. [gzip is great, free software - thanks guys!]
for AlteredSaver v3 - http://www.AlteredWorlds.com/updates/saver3/
With some web browsers, these files will still be compressed after downloading them. You'll need a utility like WinZip to expand them so AlteredSaver can use them.
Other browsers (like my current version of Microsoft's IE) will automatically uncompress the file for you but may not correctly update the file name by removing '.gz'. You can recognize this case as follows: the new file on your disk (something.tnt.gz) will be much bigger than the same file as viewed in your browser on our site. If this happens, just rename the file by removing the final '.gz' - AlteredSaver should be able to use the scene right away. <TOP>
Q: How can I uninstall AlteredSaver if I don't want it on my computer any more?
A: We hope this *never* happens to you! But one person did ask, so here's the basic instructions - email us for more information. We aim to provide amusement, not annoy you!
Please follow the standard Windows procedure to uninstall AlteredSaver.
Open the Windows Control Panel [Start - Settings - Control Panel] and double click on the icon marked: 'Add/Remove Programs'.
You'll see a list of 'Currently Installed Programs' - select 'AlteredSaver v3' and then press the button marked 'Change/Remove'.
Press 'Yes' when asked 'Are you sure you want to remove 'AlteredSaver v3' and all its components?'. AlteredSaver will be removed from your system.
If you have downloaded any additional scenes, these may be left on your machine and can be deleted. The default location for these scenes is: 'c:\Program Files\AlteredWorlds\AlteredSaver\scenes' -you can safely delete the whole folder 'AlteredWorlds'. <TOP>
